Kiki is a middle aged Shar Pei cross who was brought into the Centre via the dog warden service having been abandoned at a vets. This means that we have no history about her but we know that she has had at least a couple of litters of puppies in her lifetime.
As is typical of Shar Pei’s, she can initially appear aloof and takes time to trust you but once she does she is a little sweetheart.
Her skin had been neglected prior to admission to the Centre but she has responded well to medication and her new owner will be best advised to do some research on the breed as skin problems are very common. She is no longer on medication.
Due to a lack of history about Kiki, and taking her breed type into account, we would ideally like to place Kiki in a new home that really understands the breed or has had experience of ‘stand offish’ breed types before. She won’t want to be rushed and overwhelmed in a busy household but would flourish in an adult only environment. Kiki has been friendly with other dogs whilst she has been in our care and has been beautifully social with other dogs when out on her walks too. Due to a lack of history about her we would prefer that she has a securely fenced in garden. We believe that she is more than likely housetrained but we do not know for sure but just in case, a new owner who is around a lot of the time initially would be great for her.
Kiki is a poppet to spend time with and we do not know why she was abandoned but with the right care and love, she will be a lovely companion for the right person.
