Ziggy is a highly energetic and active 1 year old male Border Collie who arrived at St. Francis as a stray. Whilst we do not know his history we have spent time getting to know him here at the center, and as such he has some special requirements with regards to the home that he needs.
Ziggy is friendly with people, but he is much more in tune with his environment and what is happening around him. Because of this he needs special attention to his training to help develop his focus towards his human friends. We are looking for an experienced, dog-savvy home who would be dedicated to enriching Ziggy’s life, to continuing his training and helping to keep both his mind and body active. Ziggy is highly motivated by toys and loves to interact with tuggy play with you. Because he finds little value in treats we have been using squeaky toys in his training.
We are looking for an adult-only home with no other pets as Ziggy will require a lot of focus initially. He has met other dogs here at the center and has shown some potential to be social with the right dogs, but he needs some one-on-one work before this is explored further.
Ziggy finds it very fun to try and chase things that move, including traffic and birds. We have been working on some training for this but it is a work in progress, which must be continued in the home. It is very important that his new home has a large fully secure garden, so that he can exercise safely and enjoy learning how to respond to recall commands and to develop his focusing skills. We are also looking for a home in a quiet or rural location.
Whilst Ziggy is somewhat of a project, he is a sweet boy who just needs some guidance and patience and would make a fantastic addition to the right home.
